Szkoła po angielsku

The word comes from Greek. In Greek the word schole meant "leisure". Although for us the idea of school is associated with work and effort rather than leisure, for the Greeks it was different. The training of the mind was for them the best use of leisure time. As for the Romans, the word for school was ludus , which meant "game, pastime"; school was a place for gladiators training for the games.
