Passive voice tenses


Passive voice can be created in all tenses. The tables below show the way how we build passive voice in English in all tenses.

Simple Forms

  Active Passive
Simple Present: I write a letter A letter is written
Simple Past: I wrote a letter A letter was written
Present Perfect: I have written a letter A letter has been written
Past Perfect: I had written a letter A letter had been written
Simple Future: I will write a letter A letter will be written.
Future Perfect: I will have written a letter A letter will have been written
Conditional II I would write a letter A letter would be written
Conditional III I would have written a letter A letter would have been written
Modals I may write a letter A letter may be written

Progressive / Continuous Forms

Present Progressive: I am writing a letter A letter is being written
Past Progressive: I was writing a letter A letter was being written
Present Perfect Progressive: I have been writing a letter A letter has been being written
